Our Story

Our theater over the years

1924

On June 9, 1924, the Riviera Theater opens in Parco, Wyoming. The two-story building, constructed in Spanish-Colonial style, accommodates 300 people. According to one patron, the nine-spring seats "were extremely comfortable."

The theater was constructed at the same time the company town of Parco was built. Frank Kistler, head of Producers And Refiners Corporation (PARCO) found the area to be a suitable refinery location, next to the railroad, in proximity to the oil fields and on the Lincoln Highway.

1925

Tom Love, theater owner, changes the theatre name to Love's Theater on August 6, 1925.

"Heretofore considerable difficulty has been encountered in the spelling of the name Riviera and it was thought that the new name would be more adaptable under existing conditions."

On January 1, 1926, the theater is renamed the Rialto.

Years later, on February 4, 1932, new owner Sherman Sanders redecorates the theater. The entrance becomes an "attraction room" to be rented out for parties--"The Grotto".

1936

New owner W. Carl Smith, reopens the theater on June 3, 1936 as the Parco Theater.

Sinclair Refining Company acquires the refinery in Parco, Wyoming during the Depression. On Jan. 1, 1942, the town population votes to change its name to Sinclair. In 1950, the theater once again reopens--this time as the Sinclair Theatre.

Over the next few decades, the theater falls into disuse. Interstate 80 reroutes traffic away from Sinclair and the theater eventually closes during the 1970s.

2015

For more than four decades, the Sinclair Theatre stood quiet. Then a group of citizens formed to revive the theater.

A feasibility study was done and it was estimated that the restoration project would be $2 million to $3 million and two years of work.

The Town of Sinclair took on the renovations themselves in 2020, with the goal of keeping the theatre as original as possible.

2021

On August 25-27, 2021, the newly restored Parco/Sinclair Historical Theatre opened to the public. The three day Grand Opening event featured dance performances, a comedy show, and the first movie projected in the renovated theatre.

The restoration project is slated for completion by 2024, the 100th anniversary of Parco/Sinclair.
